Abdullah Miniawy Trio (Live)

Sun May 31 | BIMHUIS

Moving between spacious brass lines and spoken word, Abdullah Miniaway Trio’s performances unfold with quiet intensity. At times expansive, at times intimate, the trio seeks to engage the audience with a transcendent experience, combining elements of inspiration, cleansing, and occasionally Sufism, infused with a jazzy, metaphorical, and the sonic textures of contemporary urban life. Light and shadow frame the stage, as voice and trombone trace emotional contours, inviting the audience into a tender act of attentive, collective listening. The result is a powerful, emotionally charged performance that explores themes of spirituality, migration, and collective experience.

About the artist

The trio led by Egyptian poet, singer, and composer Abdullah Miniawy creates performances that move between poetry, jazz, and experimental sound. Their practice builds on years of transforming MIDI fragments, harmonies and digital textures into physical, acoustic performance, an ongoing process of experimentation that has brought them to leading 2025 platforms including Unsound, the Venice Biennale, CTM, and more. The project premiered at the Musée Dauphinois during the Détours de Babel Festival and has since toured internationally, with performances at venues and festivals including the Venice Biennale and concert halls across Europe and North Africa. Drawing on Miniawy’s latest compositions, the trio moves fluidly between baroque and operatic influences, Coptic and Middle Eastern musical traditions, and contemporary experimental forms. As they look toward 2026, the trio expands its research into Tunisian sonic heritage while developing new commissions and a multi-continent tour across Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
