General Info
-
Founded in 2010 by a collective of audiovisual enthusiasts, in 10 editions the FIBER Festival has grown into a vibrant meeting place where experimental audiovisual and multi-sensory art forms can be experienced and celebrated. The programme offers insights, stories and perspectives on urgent developments at the intersection of technology, ecology and sound. We often ask the question: how can the world look, feel and sound different when we perceive it through the eyes and ears of artists?
What started with a first edition in the basement of the now-defunct club TrouwAmsterdam, the festival now finds its way around the city of Amsterdam, spreading to larger theatres and concert halls, to leading clubs and DIY spaces. We offer a four-day packed programme; from concerts, DJ-sets and AV performances in the evening and nights, to inspiring lectures and knowledge exchange during the day.

Every year we work on improvements to provide a safer space for our visitors, artists, team and volunteers. If anything did happen during the festival, on boundary-violating or transgressive behaviour or an unpleasant experience that you would like to share with us, please get in touch via: safety@fiber-space.nl
You will be in contact with someone from our team who will support you further. In doing so, we are also affiliated with MORES, which means we can also put you in touch directly with an external confidential counsellor. You can also get in touch with them directly: https://www.mores.nl/en/steun-nodig
If you witness anything happening to others at the festival and want to report it, please go to one of our ticket desks (daytime) or the bar staff at the evening/night venues. They will inform their trusted coordinator and us of the unwanted behavior. You can also contact the above email address. We will check it regularly during the festival.
Don't hold back on sharing things, in fact, we are here to support you should anything have happened.

Policies
-
Because we find ourselves in a global climate emergency, every festival edition FIBER is working in areas to increase sustainability and reduce festival impact. We actively work to minimise flights: short-haul flights are converted as much as possible to train journeys and all flights are offset. This is a collaborative conversation and process with artists, agents and everyone who is part of the mobility of art and culture. Work is being done to cut-out and reduce (single-use) plastic use at the festival. We don’t provide plastic bottles with beverages. Artist and crew catering is always vegetarian, and often entirely plant-based. We will add more steps and areas of development in the near future.
Travel:
We work with Mega Travel and Trees for All to compensate the Co2 emissions
In Amsterdam, we help our guests to use public transport
Hospitality:
We limit single use plastic throughout the festival and pre-production by only providing glass bottled drinks
Our catering providers travel by bike and serve food in big containers, and we use regular reusable plates and cutlery. Food is vegan.
We provide artists and speakers with a refillable aluminium water bottle
Promotion:
We use sustainable printing materials for our signing boards and festival flags without pvc or 100% recycled polyester
We use paper wristbands
We gear towards a rather online digital promotion material use than paper print
We design promotional material that can be reused along several years

Yes, and so should everyone :)
FIBER follows the Fair Practice Code (Dutch), which sets out clear fees for artists, researchers, crew, team members and interns. We engage with artists and team members to learn and continue to improve financial situations.Fair Practice Code -
FIBER follows and acts through a Code of Conduct:
We follow a zero tolerance policy: no racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, cissexist, ableist or otherwise oppressive behaviour is allowed, casual or explicit. This includes any harmful language, behaviour, or action toward anyone. We take extra care of creating a safe and accommodating space for the needs of people of colour, trans folks and people in need of more physical or cognitive support. We won't tolerate any harassment.
We follow an upgraded version of the Berlin Code of Conduct. Please read about it here.
