About the artist
Julian Tjon Sack Kie is an intuitive composer and musician working across contemporary classical, jazz, and electronic music. His compositions serve as a means to engage with themes such as ecology, non-Western philosophies, and spirituality, while also reflecting on personal narratives, including his Surinamese roots and the experience of navigating Western contexts. His work has been presented at venues including Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, Dutch National Opera, Concertgebouw, and Reethaus in Berlin. He has also composed film scores for Emergence Magazine in collaboration with Studio Airport, and is a recipient of the YAA Awards and the AHK Eindwerkprijs.
