Ashland Mines, better known by his latest moniker Bobby Beethoven, is a multidisciplinary artist and musician whose practice spans over two decades at the forefront of global club culture. Formerly known as Total Freedom, Mines has built a reputation for pushing sound beyond the conventions of the dancefloor, operating at the edges of club music and performance. As a DJ, he has appeared at festivals such as Club to Club and Draaimolen, and remains closely connected to scenes around Evian Christ’s Trance Party, as well as institutions like Fabric, Berghain, and WWW Tokyo. His work moves fluidly between music, art, and fashion, with collaborations spanning Arca, Kelela, and Ryan Trecartin, alongside soundtracks for Telfar, Mugler, and Helmut Lang. Alongside his performances, Mines has developed a strong curatorial and institutional presence, with projects presented at venues including Museum of Modern Art, Tate Modern, and MOCA Los Angeles.
